Thursday, July 12, 2001 we headed down to Battery Park and took the ferry out to the Statue of Liberty and then on to Ellis Island. Due to heat, they had already closed the crown, so we could not go there, but several people did climb up to the base. It was a nice day and we met people from Oregon there. | |||

Well, this was the
night of the Speech Final. 3 buses with 123 Delegates from 7 states and 1 province had come together for this week. They had visited the UN, listened to the speeches, and studied on their own. I can't hide my pride that 8 of the finalists were from our bus and that the winner was from our bus. Congratulations to all of the finalists. |

These photos may be my favorites. 3 of the 4 states from Bus 6 are represented and 3 speech finalists are here. However, what's great is the joy in their faces. None of these kids won the speech contest, but they are so happy to be there and together with their new and special friends. After the speeches were over we had a brief, but fun, dance. | ![]() |

Well, it was a long and tiring
week. There were problems; kids who didn't pay attention, kids who got lost, schedules that changed at will, etc. But... it was a great week! We saw and did so much in such a short period of time. So many special things! So many special friends! My room-mate for the week was Paul Fenton, who will be the Grand Master of Michigan this coming year. We had a great time together. This was in our hotel room. At the Speech Finals, all of the Tour Leaders were given a nice
clock. |
